Bikaner is located in the northern part of Rajasthan. See the famous temple dedicated to the Karni Mata and is home to many rats considered sacred by Hindu devotees. These rats are not harmed in any way but fed and worshiped by the priests and devotees who call them “Kabbas”. This is why the temple is also known as “Rat Temple”.

Rat Temple ( Karni Mata Temple) : The famous 600 years old temple is situated 30 KM from Bikaner in Deshnok.It is also know to Karni Mata Temple.This temple is dedicated of karni Mata, An incarnation of Goddess Durga. The temple has huge intricately carved silver gates which were donated by Maharaja (King) Ganga Singh. The most interesting thing about the temple are the rates who scamper freely within precincts. They are regarded as sacred and are fed by priests & devotees owing to the belief that they will be reincarnated in the family of the goddess. These are holy rats are called Kabbas, And many people travel great distance to pay their respects, The temple draws visitors from across the country for blessings, as well as curious tourists from around the world. The Legend : Legend has it that Laxman, son of Karni mata, drowned in a pond in Kapil Sarovar in Kolayat Tehsil while he was attempting to drink from it. Karni Mata implored Yama, the god of death, to revive him. First refusing, Yama eventually relented, permitting Laxman and all of Karni Mata's male children to be reincarnated as rats.
